Shirley Fulkerson Lewis of Bristol, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 20, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones.

Shirley was born in 1936 and raised in the Litz Manor community of Kingsport, Tennessee. She graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School class of 1954, and later graduated from (then) East Tennessee State College where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. While at ETSU Shirley met the love of her life, William R. “Bill” Lewis of Chilhowie, VA. Shirley and Bill were married in 1963 and moved to Bristol, Virginia. She worked as an executive secretary at Tennessee Eastman Company and in 1966 helped Bill start the Lewis Insurance Agency in Bristol, which is still in the family today.

Shirley loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart. She was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church in Bristol, Tennessee. There she sang in the Church Choir, was a member of the Friendship Ladies Circle, Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and served in countless other ways. She also served her community with the Bristol Food Pantry and was active in a number of Home Maker Clubs. In her spare time, she loved to sew, cook, read, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Edith Fulkerson, husband, William R. “Bill” Lewis, and daughter, Becky Lewis Garrison.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Shanna Lewis of Bristol, TN, grandchildren; Harrison Lewis of Knoxville, TN, Hayden Lewis of Temple, TX, Alexa Garrison and Ava Garrison of Blountville, TN, brother, Ben Fulkerson of Johnson City, TN, sister, Lydia Davidson of Jonesboro TN, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Beamer of Christiansburg, VA and Elizabeth Lewis of Dallas, TX, several nieces and nephews, and many friends from her church, neighborhood, and the community. Shirley is also survived by a special friend and care-giver Becky Mullins, to whom the family will forever be grateful.

A special word of thanks is also extended to the nurses and staff of Ballad Hospice for their compassion and kindness.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lewis will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Mark Overton officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service and interment will be private.
