Shirley Edith Bailey Knittel, “Mammaw K”, age 88, of Church Hill, TN closed her eyes in this world on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, to open them in the presence of Jesus. Her life showed the perfect example of unselfish love. She was born June 6, 1933 in Abingdon, VA, and was the daughter of the late Roby Tilson and Bessie L. Pope Bailey. Mrs. Knittel was a member of East Bristol Baptist and was saved as a young girl. She loved spending time with her grandkids, and also enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and basketball days.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by sister, Lola Harris; brothers, James, Robert, Charles and Johnny Lee; daughter in law, Teresa Ruth Knittel. Shirley is survived by her son, Mike Knittel, Sr.; grandsons, Mike Knittel, Jr. and wife Misty, and Robbie Knittel; granddaughter, Nikki Knittel; great grandson, Andrew Knittel; great granddaughters, Danielle Walters and husband Jeremy, Kenady Knittel, Paige Jenkins, and Faith Jenkins; sister, Anna Belle Townsend; sister-in-law, Betty Bailey; aunt, Minnie Ball; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 in the Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff and nurses at The Madison House, and to Shirley’s friend, Roma.
