It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Samuel “Wilkie” Welch on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from Alzheimer’s. He was born on October 26, 1940 to Sam and Elza Stanley Welch. In addition to his parents, Wilkie was preceded in death by several siblings.

Our Daddy loved singing and music more than eating and if you knew him that is saying something. He worked hard all of his life to support us. Daddy also loved all people; he had so many friends and he never met a stranger. He is our pride and joy,

He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Barbara Jane Welch, whom he loved with all his heart; daughters, Lori Roe and husband J.R., Mary Looney and husband Bryan, Kathy Farrell and husband James; sons; Sam Welch, and Chad Welch and wife Donna; grandchildren, Jordan, Andrea, Cassie, Courtney, Amber, Alex, Channing, Victoria, Savannah, Megan, Logan; 13 great grandchildren and one expected in a couple of weeks; sisters, Martha Kerbo and Peggy Bowen; brother, Tom Welch; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Wilkie Welch will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Revival Center Church, 19806 Benhams Road, Bristol, VA, with Pastor Lyons Smith and Pastor Roger Ball officiating.  The committal service and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in Weaver Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ben Harlow, Larry Nunley, Donald Barton, Steve Warner, Mike Littleford, and Logan Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Roe, Leo Rhymer, Bryan Looney, James Farrell, Tommy Luchini, Stevie Luchini and Charlie Ramsey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2319 Browns Mill Road, Suite D-6, Johnson City, TN  37604. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Caris Hospice and NHC Healthcare of Bristol for their love and care.
