Leona Stine Dickens went home to be with the Lord and her family on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Bristol. She was born February 2, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Haden and Etta Peters Stine. She had spent her entire life in Bristol, Tennessee and was educated in the Bristol, Tennessee school system.
Leona was most recently a member of Heritage Baptist Church and former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She attended the same Sunday School as a child. She had been active in church work since 1954 having served as church secretary of Emmanuel Baptist Church for twenty-seven years and taught Sunday School for thirty-two years.
She and her husband, Dallas, were instrumental in financially helping many young people with their Christian education.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas, of 66 years. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Buddy and Cecil Stine of Bristol, Tennessee and one sister, Gladys South of Johnson City, Tennessee, and a special nephew, Allen Stine, of Bluff City, Tennessee.
Surviving are special nephew Eddie Stine and sister-in-law Betty Stine. Also surviving are several nieces, Peggy Holeva, Sherry Smelser, Debbie Chapman, Ima Jean Lowe and Patricia Shelton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dewey Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Shelby Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Stine, Mike Stine, Scott Stine, Jeffrey Huff, Freddie Harrison and Daniel Mitchell.
The family would like to express their appreciation to NHC Healthcare of Bristol and to the many friends and family who have provided loving care, support, and encouragement over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Haven of Rest Rescue Mission, 624 Anderson St, Bristol, TN 37620.
