John L. Vernon II, age 65, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in  Bristol Regional Medical Center. 


He was born October 23, 1952 in Bristol, Va., a son of the late John L. Vernon and Jean M. Tranum Smith. John was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was a Veteran of the National Guard. He was supervisor for Dana Corporation and a member of God’s House. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and car and motorcycle enthusiast. John had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Truly the world lost a good man and he will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his “brother”, Joe Tranum.


He is survived by his daughter, Lesley Setchim and husband Alexander; son, Hunter Vernon; sister, Kim Moore and husband Randy; and step father, Larry Smith.


A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sidney Payne officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
