On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, Jeffrey Douglas Gilliam, loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend too many passed away peacefully at age 58 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.

Jeffrey was born on August 30, 1960 in Bristol, VA to John and Barbara (Bledsoe) Gilliam.  He was a 1979 graduate of Virginia High School.  Jeffrey spent much of his life in Bristol, working for the Bristol Herald Courier, later moving on to Raleigh, NC, and then to the Augusta, GA area, where he ran a very successful cabinetry business at Altman Custom Cabinets, with best friend and partner Larry Altman. 

Jeffrey was a father to two loving children Derek Gilliam and Kristi Gilliam, both of the Bristol area.  He was an avid Vols fan, who spent many years singing either “Good Ol’ Rocky Top” or “Bad Ol” Rocky Top” depending on the team’s performance.  He was also a big time lover of music of many genres.  Jeffrey will be remembered for his quick wit, and his kind, compassionate, and loving heart.

Mr. Gilliam was preceded in death by his father, John W. Gilliam; paternal grandparents, Spencer and Della Rhea “Mammy” Gilliam; maternal grandparents, James and Lucille “Nonny” Bledsoe; and uncle Ralph Gilliam.

Jeffrey is survived by his mother, Barbara Jean Gilliam (Bledsoe); his son Derek Gilliam and wife Bonnie; his daughter, Kristi Gilliam; best friend and partner, Larry Altman; brothers, Ricky Gilliam and wife Michelle and Brian Henson; aunts, Brenda Johnson and husband Glen, Charlotte Minnick and husband Henry; grandsons, Dominic Gilliam, Trystan Gilliam, and Memphis Hilliard; granddaughter, Tryniti “Teeny” Reynolds; niece, Jessica Puckett and husband Eric; nephew Jon Gilliam; special friend and mother of his children, Sandra Gilliam; and very special friends Barry Altman, Tony Hattaway, and James Graninger.

The funeral service for Jeffrey will be at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Weaver Funeral Home with Pastor David Mizelle officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, prior to the service.  The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 in the mausoleum at Mountain View Cemetery.
