James Warren Mitchell, age 70, of Kingsport, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was born June 3, 1947 in Bloomington, Iowa, a son of the late John and Cora Dykstra Mitchell. James was a U.S. Army Veteran. He lived most of his life in the Tri-Cities area and retired from Jacobs Construction. James was a member of Word of Life Church in Kingsport, Tenn. where he taught Sunday School. He was a loving husband, father and brother and will be missed by all.


He is survived by his wife, Judy Lynn Shelton Mitchell; step children, Misty McElyea and Chris Woods; four grandchildren, Logan Vermillion, Haley Tomlinson, Tyler Tomlinson and Brayden McElyea; sisters, Mirian Nash and husband Dan. Ruth Wood and husband Tim, Mary King and husband Bob; brothers, Paul Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell and wife Mary Ellen, David Mitchell and friend, Gayle Epperson, and Mark Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.


The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joel Morton and Pastor Bobby King officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
