Ellis Lee Nash, age 94, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1924 in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Thomas C. and Lilly Mae Ball Nash. Ellis was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving with the 526th Battalion Armored Infantry. He fought in the battles in Europe, Germany, France, The Battle of the Bulge, and the 2nd wave of The Normandy Invasion.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and retired from Greyhound after 35 years of service. Ellis was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir member, and worked with the junior department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma R. Nash; sisters, Frances Ziglar, Peggy Carty, Lottie Tester, and Lorraine Grubbs; brothers, Orville, James, Charlie and Herbert Nash.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Hartsock and husband J.W.; son, Sandy Nash and wife Lisa; four grandchildren, Chad Hartsock and wife Ami, Seth Hartsock and wife Kim, Brock Nash, and Amber Nash; three great grandchildren, Judah, Kaylin, and Vashti Hartsock; sister, Willetta Leonard; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Eklund officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:15 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. A procession of family and friends will leave Weaver Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m. Thursday to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Set Free Rolling Ministries.
