Early Thursday morning, January 14, 2021, Corrina McMillan Smith, beloved wife and devoted mother, passed away after a courageous fight against cancer at the age of 41.

Corrina was born on January 26, 1979 in Glendale, AZ to Earl and Wilhelmina McMillan (Lastdrager). As a child, she also lived in Del Rio, TX, Wichita Falls, TX, and Duns Tew, England before her family settled in Kingsport, TN in 1988. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where she met her high school sweetheart who later became her husband, Derek. She competed and placed in state culinary competitions and traveled to national competitions while in high school. Professionally, she was a profoundly talented chef of both savory and pastry sides of the kitchen. The culinary arts came so naturally to her. Most significantly, she spent many years as a chef at the Troutdale Dining Room in Bristol, TN, where she made many life-long friendships. On April 6, 2008, she married Derek Smith, and on June 20, 2010 she gave birth to their incredible son, Aiden.

Corrina was an amazingly selfless person, always putting others needs before her own. The world may never know a kindness that matches hers. Everywhere she went, she was unforgettable, and people just simply loved her. She had a great love of animals and possessed a nature that drew them to her. She had many beloved pets through her life, most recently her dog Sammy, her cats Simon and Sadie, and her bunnies Hazel and Clover. She had an incredible sense of humor and a beauty that would stop you in your tracks. She had a magnificent soul that shown threw every inch of her being. She was a fierce friend, a beloved daughter and sister, a wife who was and is still loved so very much, and most importantly, a mother whose love knows no bounds. In the words of her son, she was “a true hero.”

Corrina is survived by her husband Derek, their son Aiden, her mother and father Wilhelmina and Earl McMillan, her sister Audrey, her mother and father-in-law Sally and Curt Smith, brother-in-law Marc Smith and Liz Smith (wife) as well as many special aunts, uncles, and cousins both locally and in the Netherlands. A private funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18th, 2021 at Weaver Funeral Home of Bristol, TN at 2pm. Due to Covid concerns, and Corrina’s wish for privacy this service will be held only for her immediate family (parents and mother and father-in-law).  A larger celebration of life will be planned for a later date once it is safe to gather for all who loved her to come together and celebrate her life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, her husband asks those who wish to honor her to make contributions to the American Cancer Society in her name in hopes we can help prevent someone in the future from having to endure this. Donations may also be made to Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA in her name to honor the incredible kindness and generosity they have shown her and her family during her fight.

Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net.  Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
