Homer Lollis Cross

Homer Lollis Cross, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. 

He was a lifelong resident of the Blountville area and the son of Charles Lee and Clara Goodman Cross. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and while serving 4 years, he played on the U.S. Air Force Professional Baseball Team. He was a lifelong member of Blountville Christian Church where he was a Deacon. Homer retired from Fluor Daniels in Kingsport after 32 years. He was a loving husband for 60 years and was dedicated to his children and his grandchildren and adored being involved in supporting them in all aspects of their lives. He also had a strong love for horses, where he was a member of the Walking Horse Association, helping with many fundraisers.


He is survived by his wife, Hazel, daughters, Kathy Carter and husband, Jimmy of Bristol, TN; and Becky Oliver and husband, Rick of Bristol, TN. Granddaughter: Dr. Jennifer Carter of Mount Pleasant, SC, Grandsons, Specialists C. Ryan Potts (U.S. Army), J. Stephen Carter and Andrew C. Potts; brother, Harry Cross and wife, Peggy and sister Nancy Sparks.


The family will be receiving friends, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 4 to 6 PM at Blountville Christian Church with Minister Dwight Shaffer officiating the service following visitation. Gunnings Cemetery in Blountville, TN will hold graveside service Wednesday at 11 AM. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Willing Workers Class: Wayne Bowers, T.J. Almaroad, Jimmy Carter and Rick Oliver. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Life Center Building Fund at Blountville Christian Church, 1680 Blountville Blvd, Blountville, TN 37617.

We are so sorry and shocked about Homer's passing. He was such a wonderful person and such a gentleman. We always enjoyed showing horses with him and chatting with him and Hazel at the shows. He will be greatly missed.
