Charles E. "Gene" Gross

Charles E. “Gene” Gross, age 87, of Bristol, TN passed away on May 17, 2017 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.  

He was born in Bristol a son to the late John and Ella Rust Gross and was a lifelong resident of the area.  Gene retired from Raytheon with 36 years of service and was a United States Army veteran.  Gene was very active at Edgemont Presbyterian Church until he was limited by Parkinson’s Disease.  He served as an Elder, sang in the church choir and men’s quartet.  He also served on the Missions Committee and helped with Meals on Wheels.   Mr. Gross was a member of the Senior Show Choir and a graduate of Holston Valley High School and Steed College. Gene enjoyed reading, writing limericks, and making his own word search puzzles.  He was preceded in death by his brother – Wade Gross,  his son-in-law Teddy Francisco, a sister – Thelma Morrell, brother-in-law Bobby Monger, and father-in-law Ernest Dixon.

Survivors include:  Wife of 50 years – Ernestine Dixon Gross, daughter – Amy Francisco, sister – Joan Monger, brother – Vernon Gross and wife Patsy, mother-in-law – Margaret Dixon, brother-in-law – Glenn Morrell  several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Edgemont Presbyterian Church with Rev. Aaron Bartmess and Rev. Larry Stallard officiating.  Entombment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be elders and deacons at Edgemont Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 12 until 1 p.m. prior to the service.  The family would like to say special thank the church family, friends, and relatives for their prayers and support during these difficult years, and also to Linda Skinner, Debbie Thompson, and Gary Brent.  The family is also very grateful to Johnston Memorial Hospital doctors, nurses and hospice workers.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Edgemont Presbyterian Church at 1013 Edgemont Ave., Bristol, TN.

Earnie and Amy you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless and keep you. Gene was a great man and I have known him since 1954. He will be missed.

Aunt Earnie and Amy, I am so sorry about Uncle Gene. He really helped with dad when he was sick. My prayers are with you all! Yes,he will be missed greatly. But he is at home with Mamaw,Papaw,Dad,and Aunt Thelma. I love you all!

Earnie and Amy, my prayers are with you all during this time and the days ahead. Gene was a dear friend and Jack enjoyed working with him at Raytheon.
