Bobby G. "Bob" Whicker

Bobby G. “Bob” Whicker of Bristol Tn., passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the age of 77, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. 

He was born in Winston Salem, N.C. on December 13, 1939. Bob was the son of the late R. F. Whicker and Flossie “Flip” Hicks and step father Marvin Samuel “Sam” Hicks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Mother-in-Law Ethel Folkner, Uncle and Aunt Hobert and Ruby Marshall, Uncle Ache Self of Winston Salem, N.C.


He worked at Sam Hicks Hair Designers as a licensed Hairdresser.  Also he retired from Beecham Laboratories, with 20 years of service. Bob was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church and a member of the order of Eastern Star # 162.


He was survived by his wife of 43 years, Lois Folkner Whicker, daughter Lynne Barker and husband Brother, both of Bristol, Va., grandson Forrest Barker of Bristol, Va., aunt Dot Self of Winston Salem, along with several cousins in the Winston Salem area. Wayne and Melita Denton of Bristol Tn., were like the brother and sister he never had. Their son Brandon, his wife Samantha and son Benjamin were also very close. Brandon considered Bob his second dad.


The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2017 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Brandon Denton and Pastor Scott Price officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will take place at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Denton, Jack Callahan, Brother Barker, Forrest Barker, Wayne Lemmon and Ron Snow.


The family would like to extend their gratitude to his care givers Wilma Casey and Ruby Harding and a very special thank you to Carol Rogers, a God send to both Bob and his wife Lois. Also to family friend and neighbor Cathy Powell who has been there throughout his entire illness. The family would also like to thank Amedisys Home Health and Home Hospice. Lastly, Dr. David Thompson, his doctor for many years and Dr. Shawn Nelson.

Lois, I am so sorry to read of the passing of Bob. Have a lot of good memories from our Beecham days. Remember coming by your house and seeing him sitting on the porch. You and the family are in our prayers.
